The decision to seek support can be difficult and it is important to find the right fit. I have worked with individuals who have a history of behavioral issues, adoption issues, grief, trauma, attachment issues, abandonment issues, and self-harm.
Research has uncovered critical new information about the brain. I incorporate this information from neuroscience to help maximize effectiveness. My practice is primarily focused on using Neurofeedback and neurostimulation techniques. I also incorporate EMDR, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.
I have been part of the mental health community for over 19 years with experience in vocational programming, activity coordination, case management and individual and group therapy. Most of the 19 years were spent in Fairbanks Alaska serving both the Fairbanks area and outlying rural communities. I was born here in Sandpoint, Idaho, but spent the majority of my life in Alaska where exploring the outdoors was endless. I have over 7 years of experience working as a Crisis Responder and counselor for individuals who have serious mental illness. I also enjoy helping individuals who simply find themselves in a difficult place in life, that benefit from shorter term therapy that need support in order to process what is happening and engage in solution focused approach . I attended the University of Alaska Fairbanks where I earned my Master Degree in Education for Community Counseling and became licensed initially in Alaska, then Washington and Idaho. I am a certified trainer with the Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) for over ten years. Helping individuals understand the underlying problems that lead to increased anxiety, depression or serious mental illness is essential in the approach I take helping individuals heal. It is important to ensure that individuals have the opportunity to explore the past, present and future on their own terms. I make a concerted effort to understand the history of the person seeking help in order to determine the best therapeutic approach. I have been trained in dialectical behavior therapy and cognitive behavior therapy with emphasis on trauma informed care, through the Beck Institute. I firmly believe in building respect, trust and rapport with each individual that enters my office so that they feel comfortable bringing vulnerabilities to the table, then begin to build on their strengths so that they may achieve their aspirations.
